Friedhof Bad Doberan

Cemetery description

On the right side of the cemetery and by the main alley, there is a grassy square marked by a wooden cross in its centre. This war graves cemetery is a collective grave of victims of World War II. At the foot of the cross there are single headstones that bear the names of the deceased, including that of 1 Pole. Most probably, there used to be more headstones here, but they were removed.
Local residents mention the so-called ‘soldiers’ graves’ that were located in the centre of the cemetery and around the still-existing sculpture of an angel. Those were the graves of German soldiers and soldiers of other nationalities as well. It is possible that they were transferred to the newly-established cemetery for the victims of Fascism in Schwerin.
