Friedhof Saalfeld

Cemetery description

In the municipal cemetery in Saalfeld, 18 Polish victims of World War II are buried. The archival cemetery records provide the victims’ names and the burial plots in which they were buried. However, to this day, the graves themselves have not survived.
As is assumed, several of the Polish war graves should have been located in the presently-empty burial section No. 2 located right next to the graves of German air raid victims. The remaining Polish graves were probably located in the burial site for Soviet citizens. The two sites (presented in the photographic documentation of the cemetery) lack the names or any other type of information about the Polish citizens buried here.
