The Düsseldorf Friedhof Eller cemetery houses two war grave sites. One of them is the final resting place for 254 persons who died in World War II, including victims of air bombardments. The other is a burial site for foreign persons. There is also a part of the cemetery, called the ‘Russian war grave site’, with 69 graves of Polish people. However, no mention of this fact can be found there. At the entrance to the burial site there is a monument that commemorates other World War II victims. Those were 725 Soviet citizens who, as the memorial tablet mentions, fell victim to the fascist regime.
In front of the cemetery chapel there is another tablet made by the German War Graves Commission (Volksbund) saying that section No. 6 of the cemetery is the final resting place for 728 Soviet, 69 Polish, 3 Estonian and one Croatian citizens. However, it fails to provide more detailed information - such as the victims’ names.
