Gedenkstein Wittenberge

Cemetery description

On the premises of the ‘Veritas Park’ factory at 48 Wilsnacker Street (next to the clock tower), there is a memorial plaque commemorating victims of National Socialism. Among those mentioned are two unidentified Polish male forced labourers and one unidentified Polish woman. The victims were murdered just at the end of the war, in April 1945. There exists an account by a witness who claims that ‘the unknown Polish woman’ was a forced labourer murdered by a Major Rauterberg because she had been caught eating fruit that was not hers. However, there is no information available about the two Polish male forced labourers.
