In the Petershagen-Bierde cemetery, in the northern part of the town of Bierdeloh, next to the chapel and the bell tower, there is a burial site for 54 foreign citizens who, after the war, stayed in the so-called ‘displaced persons’ camp in Bierde and died between 1945 and 1948. The majority of those buried here are Polish citizens, Polish children in particular. Their names are inscribed upon flat grave plaques. However, there is no archival documentation concerning these persons. It has only been possible to identify 28 names among all those resting here.
The state of preservation of this burial site and the gravestones is quite poor.
